I really think that yellow and balck work quite well together, and if you join some bits of blue the match it's perfect. Finally a new poster!! This poster probably it's simbol of everything it's organizing in my life again!! After moving back to Portugal I had some problems with the computer, and then I didn't had time (the best portuguese excuse by the way..hehe) to work. But finally Im back.
This poster its about Alentejo, the region in Portugal were my parents were born. And I did this design specially to my fathers birthday, I hope he likes...lets see. He usually dosent have much of an opinion about m work, so Im a bit nervous, he can be the most dificult client sometimes.

Last week I was seeing a really nice documentary on BBC4 about Ella fitzgerald, and they were talking about her first band ...I cant remember the name right now... but I noticed a poster of their first concert, and it was amazing!! So, I had the idea of doing this poster.
Lately I've been feeling this need of starting to experimenting with fonts, and try to understand were do they work better. I still have to practice more...but I think I'm in the right track.
By the way, this poster it's dedicated to another bar that I used to go in Lisbon. It was a nice place, with nice jazz music...and sometimes wierd things could happen...mainly in the toilets...but that's another story...hehehehe. Enjoy!

Finally I finished the things I had to do this week, and what is the best way of celebrating that...work a bit more!!! So, I decided to pay tribute to one of the bars I used to go when I was living in Lisbon. Its a quite dark place, is always playing the same albuns, Nirvana, Pixies, Pearl Jam and Manu Chau... all the time...they didn't chance anythign in 10 years. So I decided to get an old drawing I did in a previous poster, and try to bring it to a completly different level using new graphic elements. I'm quite happy with the final result. I had the idea for this poster a few weeks ago when I saw a really nice 60's style printing in a pub. It was really amazing, the colors were spot on, the shapes had that psicotropic feel, that I dont specially like, but in that poster were quite good. But the best of all was the main element on it, a womens face "emerging" from the combination of all graphic elements and lettering. It was just brilliant. So, I had the idea of doing this design... I've had this idea of making a design with a peacock for quite while now. I really love the hypnotizing patterns of the feathers, and I think it looks really cool on a poster. I just used old graphics that were "lost" in a folder in my computer, did some small vectorial work, and didnt add any texture. This year I decided to do another work for the OFFF festival catalogue. The theme it's Wi-Fi, so I decided to represent the "freedom" of it!! I've use some different shapes but basically the technique its the same, the background its a bit different that usual. Here it is, my first work of 2008. I've just return from my christmas hollidays in Portugal, back to the cold and grey britain... so I had to do something colourful and joyful. I'm not that happy with this work... the lettering is not that good, and the vectorial drawing could be better... but overal its ok...

I had the idea for this poster in my head for so long, and finally I made it!!! I just think the tail of a whale its a really powerfull image to a poster...so i had to try it. why a whale? becuase it looks so damn good!!!
Well, this time I have try to use some different technics, and try to have a simple design. I've used some old wallpaper in someparts... and old paper in the background... but the rest it's all vectorial work. And again avant garde font. Hope you like it!!

First of all I have to say that Avant Gard font its always a good option for a poster!!! It's so nice and smooth, it brings the design to a all new level!! In this poster I've used some picture of my flickr account and just work with that, but this time using some patterns. I've tried to put some art noveau painting kind of vibe, but without the flowes and "organic" stuff... I know its sounds wierd but that was just my intention really...hehe. Hope you like it!!

I´ve been really busy lately, full of work to do... Christmas is arriving, and so the public demand for postcards. A client ask me to do a Christmas postcard... so I had the idea of doing in a old style but not in a very conventional way.

Again you can see that I'm getting my inspiration from 30's posters, mainly this one made by Ferdinand Andri. This time I'm really happy with the lettering and overall happy with the result. Enjoy!

I've been reading a really good book, that I got from the library, about 30's posters. And I have to admit that I'm just amazed with that style, I think it's becoming almoust like an addiction...hehe. I just love the lettering and the collours, especially the ones of russian propaganda. Just take a look at this beautiful exemple of Eli Lissitzy.
Well, I did try to put again a 30's vibe to this poster, but with a personal touch, I dont know if I acchive that...but here it is. Enjoy

Lats weekend I passed by an local tattoo shop. The tattoos were so bad, but, I dont know why, I did like them. Not because of the amount of skill requiered to do it, but because I was struggling with the lack of imagination, and there was always that feeling of something was missing... but I manage to finish!!!! In this poster you can find some influencies of Scott Hansen. He is one of my favourite graphic designers, and he is a massive influence on my work!!! I always try not to "imitate" his graphic style, but this time, I admit, I've used a similar frame as Hansen uses on his works.
But I try to use other tecnics as well...my main objective with this work was to creat a "feeling" of 3 dimensions, that's why I've used the squares with images in different plans...Enjoy!!

Today I found in my suitcase of graphics a really nice postcard. I don't remember were did I get it, but I remember why I get it... brillaint colours, and that art deco syle that looks so good on posters are brilliant!!! So I've made a background using some textures, wallpaper, again, but this time a litle bit more organic...And with this poster I finish my first Urban Myth poster collection. Tesco crow

Today I've been in one of the most awful places in UK...TESCO!!! It was so bad, but I had to go there... I just hate everything inside those places!! when I was leaving, I just saw a huge crow, he was in the floor looking at me, and then he went away... one thing that impressed me was the shiny black body... so I had the idea of doing this poster. I've used again some wallpaper from the 70's, and some textures of old papers. I did try to create an old look, with a litle bit of OP ART influence.

LIFE Magazine advert

I've was seeing my old LIFE magazinefrom the 50's, that I luckly found in a stree of Lisbon some years ago... and there was an old advert form phillips... it was brilliant, it had some magnificent colours, browns and yellows...really good indeed!!! 70's patterns

Here it is, the 3rd Poster of the collection Urban myth. Lately I've develop an interest in 70's design style, and specially the patterns they used. The Design back in those days it was so simple and beautiful, most of the times they just use a picture and the lettering in the right place, and that's it...it works, simple and effective!
In this poster I used some patters from the 70's, but its really hard for me make things simple...that reminds me what my professor back in the uni allways said: be careful with the "noise" in the graphic work!!!70's

Dont know if that was achived... I'm quite happy with the result, but it's far from good. I feel that I have to improve a lot. Inspiration from Birmingham

Last weekend I went to Birmingham, and I have to admit that it's not a very beautiful city to visit, 60% of the buildings are in 60's style, and it looks a very grey place. But I love that greyness, I love the modernism building from the 60's, they are amazing and with loads of graphic potencial. So I was inspired to do something like that, and here ir is.
In the future I'll have to take my camera and take some pictures of it!
